Family Day Care Victoria
services provided

Family Day Care provides a wide range of childcare options in a home-based setting.

The Co-ordination Unit is managed by the operator, for example a Local Government, Community or Private provider.

Family Day Care services provide the following types of care for children aged up to 12 years:

Full-time or part-time care
Care for children with additional needs
Overnight care
Weekend care
Before and After school care
School holiday care
Occasional care
Emergency care
Respite care

Many Family Day Care services provide playgroups for the preschool aged children in care with their educators.

Educators will, where possible, be able to deliver and collect children from local kindergarten sessions, or school. This enables family groups to stay together in the care environment.

In-Venue Family Day Care

In rural and remote settings where there is limited opportunities to provide Family Day Care in a home-based environment, families can be offered another model of Family Day Care called In-Venue Family Day Care.

This model of Family Day Care can be provided in an environment such as a kindergarten, school classroom, maternal & child health centre, community centre or other appropriate venue.

It can only be offered in a rural and remote setting where there is no other childcare available. It still provides the same quality care and ratios as home-based Family Day Care and the Educator and environment is monitored by a Coordination Unit.

Each In-Venue Application must be approved by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and is assessed on a case by case basis.

family day care is a very flexible, home-based childcare service
